My concept for “Yerma” was to show the contrast in Yerma’s life when she was inside her home versus the outside world she longed to be a part of. The lighting for scenes in her home were devoid of color, stark, and sharp to show her feeling of being trapped, isolated, and unhappy. While the scenes that took place in the town and outside of the home were full and vast, introducing color and gobos to show the appeal of life outside of the home Yerma was trapped in.
